September
As August drew to an end we were already experiencing the delights of the change seasons with sunshine, showers and windy blustery days. WildCall is still receiving reports of hungry caterpillars filling up on garden delights.
Berries hanging heavy on the trees are providing plenty of food for birds and other animals to fatten up before the really cold weather heads our way.
What to spot this month includes
- Blackberries
- Sloes
- Conkers
- Craneflies
- Giant puffball
- Fleabane
- Autumn ladies tresses
- Knopper galls

There are many more species to be spotted this month so keep your eyes peeled and don’t forget to fill in our species recording form so we can submit your sightings to the Sussex Biodiversity Record Centre
Sussex Wildlife Trust nature reserves to visit this month
Ebernoe Common.Ebernoe is a superb example of a Low Weald woodland with a history of traditional use. For centuries it was wood pasture, where commoners would turn out their cattle or pigs to graze and browse on young trees and scrub, beech mast and acorns, or on the grassy meadows in clearings.Ebernoe is fantastic for spotting Orchids and other woodland and meadow flowers, adder's-tongue fern, nightingales, woodcock, purple emperor and silver-washed fritillary butterflies, rare fungi and lichens, dormice and bats.Remember this month
