The Outreach Project aims to help develop environmental awareness in young people across the county. It compliments the formal education delivered at Woods Mill and Seven Sisters Country Park and encourages schools and youth organisations to get more involved with environmental activities within their own grounds or local greenspaces.

Being a volunteer for the Outreach Project can be a very varied experience as we offer a wide range of services!
Typical activities may include:
• visits to schools exploring the wildlife within their school grounds
• visits to schools bringing a selection of wildlife from Woods Mill
• working in a local park or woodland with schools or youth groups
• helping scouts etc complete ecology badges either at Woods Mill or at a local greenspace
• helping with weekend family events at Woods Mill
• helping with summer holiday activities at Woods Mill.
Whilst a lot of work will be within school hours, there are also plenty of opportunities to help out at weekends, in the evenings and in the school holidays – great for people who need a bit of flexibility!
We work throughout Sussex and are happy for volunteers to select only the projects that are convenient for them to travel to. As an Outreach volunteer, you will be working with small groups of children. You will be fully briefed on all activities and receive the necessary training to lead or support small groups.
Whilst an interest in wildlife is important, the most essential quality we look for in Outreach volunteers is some form of educational experience, enthusiasm and sense of humour!
