At the Sussex Wildlife Trust we try and encourage people to help out at a nature reserve near to them to avoid travelling great distances for sustainability purposes.
Volunteers should be aged 18 and over and in general we ask that you are able to make a minimum commitment of 10 days volunteering each year.
Please call the People and Wildlife Officer on 01273 497562 who will put you in touch with the Volunteer Reserve Manager beforehand, especially if it is your first time, so that they can meet you and give you instructions.
All volunteers will be asked to comply under health and safety regulations. Most tasks start at 10am and last till mid-afternoon, but some times do vary. Dates and times are subject to change.
All you need to bring are old clothes, suitable footwear, food and drink and plenty of enthusiasm. Tools and training are provided, though for some tasks you may wish to invest in a pair of gardening gloves [not to be used when handling sharp tools though!].
The Trust has a Volunteer Policy and travel costs for public transport and petrol can be reimbursed on agreement with People and Wildlife Officer.
Once the trial day goes well and you wish to commit regularly please contact the People & Wildlife Officer for official registration as a volunteer to comply with our Health & Safety legislation
