Sussex Wildlife Trust (SWT) is delighted that Henfield Gardens and Arts has chosen ‘Gateway to Nature’ - the Trust’s landmark education project – as its charity at the 2008 Festival (14/15 June).
The Trust stand and events will take place in Tanyard Meadow, an historic wildlife site in Cagefoot Lane, Henfield, once under threat from developers but now a haven for wildlife. The Trust will be organising bug hunting sessions, butterfly sweeping and a wildlife trail complete with nature quiz.
Every year, local people open their gardens to the public for the weekend and artists hold ‘open house’ to display their work including ceramics, jewellery, paintings, photography, sculpture and woodwork.
Visit Tanyard Meadow to enjoy bug hunting and butterfly sweeping between 14:00 and 15:00 on Saturday 14 June and Sunday 15 June. Numbers will be limited so please book in advance at the SWT stand when you arrive. All children must be accompanied by an adult and wellies are advisable.
Each year Henfield Gardens and Arts Festival nominate a charity to support. This year their chosen charity is Sussex Wildlife Trust’s 'Gateway to Nature' -an inspiring environmental education project at Woods Mill, Henfield, providing opportunities for people of all ages to connect with their environment.
Dr Tony Whitbread, Chief Executive Sussex Wildlife Trust said, ‘ ‘Gateway to Nature’ will improve our facilities enabling us to host larger groups and deliver our own special ‘hands on’ brand of environmental education all year round. There will be opportunities for all age groups, not just school children, to learn about the natural world and how their individual contribution can make a real and lasting difference to the future of Sussex.
