Sussex Wildlife Trust (SWT) is encouraging people to get out and about and enjoy the countryside as part of 'Wildlife Week' (a three week celebration of nature and wildlife) - The Wildlife Trusts’ annual celebration of UK wildlife.
Whether you fancy finding out more about wild flowers, want to spot beautiful dragonflies and damselflies or spend an evening with one of Britain’s most mysterious birds – the nightjar – SWT has all sorts of events and activities happening in your area between 31 May to 21 June.
Alternatively why not simply enjoy a family day out and explore one of the Trust’s 30 nature reserves - on your doorstep and free to visit.
Dr Tony Whitbread, SWT’s Chief Executive says: ‘More and more people are getting interested in the wealth of wildlife Sussex has to offer. 'Wildlife Week' is a great opportunity to get outside and closer to nature. Visiting one of our nature reserves in early summer is a fantastic day out - wild flowers are blossoming in meadows and hedgerows, bird numbers are boosted by the arrival of summer migrants like chiffchaffs, and you can spot many different kinds of butterflies, dragonflies and damselflies.”
SWT is the leading conservation organisation in Sussex and looks after over 3000 acres of downland, woodland, wetland and heathland. Its work also includes environmental education, working with land owners, companies and local communities to conserve Sussex.
