Discover wildlife on your doorstep this summer with Sussex Wildlife Trust (SWT). Find out more about the fascinating world of butterflies, bugs and bats during three separate one-day courses in August.
On Friday 10 August at Woods Mill, Henfield learn about the colourful world of butterflies. After a morning classroom session looking at their biology, habitats and identification tips, there is a chance to study red admirals, commas and peacocks out on the nature reserve. In the afternoon enjoy a trip to Mill Hill at Shoreham-by-Sea to study the blue butterflies that should be on the wing.
Often unpopular with humans, bugs and creepy crawlies account for around 80% of the world’s species. Join entomologist, Dr Patrick Roper, on Saturday 11 August at St Dunstan’s Farm near Heathfield, and learn about the diversity of insects in Sussex including how to identify, record and study them.
Alternatively on Saturday 11 August look out for the flying stars of the night as dusk falls with SWT’s bat expert at Woods Mill, Henfield. Study the ecology of bats and their identification on this introductory course before going out on to the reserve to look for bats as they emerge from their roosts.
An Introduction to Butterflies and An Introduction to Insects both run from 10:00-16:00. SWT’s Introduction to Bats runs from 15:30-22:30.
Cost for members per course: £22.50 and non-members: £30.
