Sussex Wildlife Trust’s (SWT) flagship project - the West Weald Landscape Project (WWLP) - has been awarded major financial support of nearly a quarter of a million pounds (£246,353) by The Tubney Charitable Trust.
This funding means the partnership project can make a substantial difference over the next five years in the conservation and enhancement of nearly 60,000 acres of internationally important ancient woodlands and other wildlife-rich habitats in West Sussex and south Surrey.
Tubney’s generous grant allows SWT to provide nature-friendly management advice to farmers and landowners that encourages wildlife to thrive and move more freely through the countryside. As well as a new programme of ecological research and monitoring, Tubney’s grant will also help fund practical works to benefit the West Weald’s important woodland habitats and wildlife such as dormice, butterflies and rare bats.
Rich Howorth, WWLP Manager says “We are delighted to secure substantial support from The Tubney Charitable Trust. With this very welcome backing we are able to look forward to making a positive impact on the nature of the West Weald.”
