Open to anyone who has an interest in birds and wildlife. Suitable for people with some general knowledge and complete beginners. Classroom based with accompanying field trips.
Learn about:
- The breeding behaviour of birds and how species are adapted to different habitats
- Birdsong (one full session)
Highlights include:
- The breeding season which gets into full swing as the course starts and resident species are establishing their territories
- The arrival of summer migrants in Sussex as spring progresses adding to the variety of birdlife
- Field trips to various bird sites across the county

This course will cover the basic ecology of a range of Sussex mammal species, including bats, badgers, dormice, water voles and deer

- Mammal surveying techniques focusing on clues that animals leave behind
- The challenges facing our mammals and the current projects to help their populations recover and thrive
Highlights include:
- Using recording equipment such as bat detectors to survey bat activity

Find out about the songs and calls of our more common resident and summer birds. Introductory classroom session and field trips, three sessions on Friday 11 April, Friday 2 & 16 May.

- Why birds sing and an insight into the differences between songs and calls (classroom session)
- The songs of common resident birds and also those of the newly arrived migrants
- Multimedia aids to birdsong identification
